From Quick Marriage to Instant Divorce: The Changing Reality of Modern Indian Marriage”
“From Quick Marriage to Instant Divorce: The Changing Reality of Modern Indian Marriage”
Marriage in India has never been merely a personal relationship—it has always been a cultural commitment, a social institution, and, for many, a sacred vow. For generations, the Hindu marriage system has been celebrated as a bond of purity, permanence, and spiritual union. But as society evolves, so do the realities behind that sacred bond.
Today, India stands at a crossroads where
“Quick Match, Instant Marriage”
and
“Instant Divorce”
coexist within the same society.
This dramatic shift has compelled individuals, families, lawmakers, and institutions to rethink the meaning of commitment, freedom, dignity, and happiness in marital life.
As an Advocate and Mediator, I have witnessed a wide spectrum of marital realities—
couples desperate to save a relationship,
couples trapped in toxic marriages,
families torn between tradition and modernity,
and individuals struggling silently under the weight of societal expectations.
These experiences made one truth clear to me:
marriage and divorce cannot be understood merely through legal provisions.
They must also be viewed through the lens of psychology, emotions, culture, social dynamics, and personal well-being.
This book is not about breaking marriages.
It is about understanding marriages.
It seeks to answer questions that millions struggle with silently:
When should a marriage be protected, and when does it become harmful?
Why did the Supreme Court recognise irretrievable breakdown of marriage?
What does dignity mean inside a relationship?
How do children perceive conflict, separation, or divorce?
How do modern expectations change marital dynamics?
What rights do both husband and wife hold?
What does a healthy, contemporary Indian marriage truly look like?
I have written this book as a practical guide,
combining my legal knowledge, mediation experience, and exposure to real-life stories.
It is meant not only for lawyers, students, or policymakers—but for anyone who wishes to understand relationships, resolve conflicts, or make informed, mindful decisions about marriage.
My belief is simple:
Awareness brings strength.
Understanding brings peace.
Balanced guidance brings justice.
If this book can bring clarity, comfort, or courage to even one person struggling within a relationship, then my mission is fulfilled.
